Lions are the only cats that live in groups, called prides. A pride is usually several related females, their cubs and one or a few males. Most wild lions live in the grasslands and savannas of Africa, with a small population in India's Gir Forest. This collection includes a lion with its cub, a lion cub alone, a baby lion and a cute lion character. Many pages pair a lion with a small companion such as an acorn, a bee, a bird, a butterfly, a fish, a flower, a kite, a ladybug, a mouse, a snail or a turtle. The lion and mouse page echoes Aesop's fable in which a tiny mouse frees a lion from a hunter's net, a great story to read aloud while coloring. Lions have tawny, sandy coats, and adult males grow a mane that can range from blond to nearly black. Cubs are born with faint spots that fade as they grow. Kids can practice drawing short, flowing strokes for the mane. Simple lion faces suit toddlers.
