Spinosaurus lived about 95 to 100 million years ago in what is now North Africa, and it may have been longer than Tyrannosaurus rex. It is famous for the tall sail on its back, supported by long spines that grew up from its backbone. Scientists think Spinosaurus spent much of its time in and around rivers, catching fish with its long, narrow, crocodile-like snout. Fossils show dense bones and a paddle-shaped tail, both clues that it was a strong swimmer. This collection keeps the giant friendly. Several pages lean into its fishing life: one Spinosaurus hugs a fish, one holds a fish up front and center, and another carries a fish in its jaws. Others stand tall, sit up chubby and relaxed, hold a seashell, celebrate a birthday with a cupcake or carry a bouquet of flowers. A baby Spinosaurus and two cute cartoon versions are perfect for preschoolers. Nobody knows its true colors, so kids can make the sail bright red, striped or rainbow.
