16 Scarecrow Coloring Pages

Farmers have used scarecrows for thousands of years to keep birds away from crops. Ancient Egyptians set wooden frames covered in nets along the Nile, and Japanese farmers made figures called kakashi. Today scarecrows are also a cheerful symbol of autumn and harvest festivals. These pages show friendly scarecrows doing all sorts of things. One dances, one tips his hat, one holds a lantern and another hugs a big pumpkin or an armful of autumn leaves. Some stand in a field or on a tall post with arms down, while others sit on a hay bale or a giant pumpkin. Crows join a couple of pages, perched on an arm or nearby, which is a funny twist on the job. One scarecrow stands among corn and wheat, and two cartoon scarecrows give tiny artists simple shapes. Patched overalls and plaid shirts are fun to fill with checks and stripes. Golden yellow for the straw and warm oranges and reds for the leaves capture the season. Big cartoon pages suit preschoolers.
