17 Diwali Coloring Pages

Diwali, also called Deepavali, is the festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists around the world. It usually falls in October or November, on the new moon night of the Hindu month of Kartika, and the main celebrations last about five days. Families clean and decorate their homes, light rows of small clay oil lamps called diyas, draw colorful rangoli patterns at the doorway, share sweets, wear new clothes and enjoy fireworks. The lights stand for the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. This collection brings Diwali symbols to life with gentle animal friends. An elephant, an owl, a tiger cub and a bunny with a sparkler each hold a glowing diya, a cow wears a flower crown and a monkey carries a box of sweets. There is also a paisley diya on a lotus, a hanging lantern, a stack of gift boxes and a rangoli pattern. Warm golds, oranges, pinks and deep blues make the lamps glow.
