16 Christmas Lights Templates and Templates

These templates turn light strings into bold patterns. Instead of a full scene, each page focuses on the lights themselves: nets of bulbs laid out in diamonds, squares, stars and wide grids, a festoon swagged across the page, icicle strands hanging down, a round grid and a long wide swag. Simple and outline versions give little hands one clean string to color. Because the bulbs repeat, these work beautifully as pattern practice. Kids might choose three colors and cycle through them, or color a whole row the same and switch on the next row. Older kids can try a gradient that shifts from warm colors on one side to cool colors on the other. The designs also make easy decorations. Cut along a string, add a strip of tape to the back, and run it across a window or the top of a bulletin board. Real holiday light strings once used large screw-in C9 bulbs, and today most sets use small LED bulbs that use far less electricity.
One bulb to a strand full of snowflakes
Simple Christmas Lights has just one large bulb, great for ages 3 to 5 and for tracing practice, and Cute Christmas Lights adds five smiling bulbs on a wire. Christmas Lights Outline is a clean strand of seven pointed bulbs for kids around 4 to 7. Fun Christmas Lights is the medium page, with two strands, star lights and detailed snowflakes for children about 5 to 8.
Build a paper light garland
Trace the bulb from Simple Christmas Lights onto colored card, cut out a dozen or more and punch a hole in each cap. Thread them onto yarn to make a garland for a doorway or classroom wall. Christmas Lights Outline can also be printed several times, colored in repeating patterns and taped end to end into one long strand that wraps around a room.
