20 Mistletoe Coloring Pages

Mistletoe is a real plant that grows on the branches of trees such as apple, oak and poplar, drawing water and nutrients from its host. It stays green in winter, which is one reason people in ancient Europe saw it as a symbol of life and peace. Hanging a sprig in a doorway at Christmas became popular in England in the 1700s. These pages show mistletoe in lots of festive arrangements: simple sprigs, easy big-leaf designs, a hanging bunch with a bow, a round kissing ball, a sprig tied with twine, and bunches decorated with bells, a candy cane, a star charm or pine cones. One page fills the leaves with patterns, and two cute character pages keep things simple for young kids. Real mistletoe has pairs of smooth, oval leaves and small white berries, so green leaves with white or pale cream berries look accurate. Holly, by contrast, has spiky leaves and red berries. Remind kids that real mistletoe berries are not safe to eat, even though they look like candy on the page.
